So before you trade in your summer skin for those high heel shoes
To make him wanna be with you
Let me remind you one more time that
Just maybe you’re beautiful but you just can’t see
So why don’t you trust me
They’ll see it too, you beautiful girl, you…
Beautiful Girl Performance

iTunes Craziness
Okay, this is a takeoff of what my friend Carrie did.
I'm gonna shuffle my iTunes and describe each song to you guys.
Hope you enjoy.
One and Only--Adele
This song never fails to make me cry. The lyrics are so, so sappy--but that's what we all need every once in a while. I think we all need something to just sit down, listen, and cry our eyes out. Haven't we all had those days? My girls at least have...I'm guessing this is going to be a pretty girl-based blog. But anyway, back to the point. This song has clever yet simple, and sappy yet meaningful lyrics. The song's all around beautiful. The song itself has a pretty, slow beat and sound, feminine and elegant. I love this song.
He Wasn't There--Lily Allen
Great song. Lily Allen's mostly a hard core girl, but in this song she's talking about how her father was never there for anything when she was growing up, but he's come to try to make up for that. I love how simple the lyrics are, yet it took me a few thousand times listening just to figure out what the song was about. At first I thought it was about a boy that just was never there for her--oops.
I'm Yours--The Script
This song--you can't really tell if it's a happy one or a sad one. We all know of the song I'm Yours by Jason Mraz, but I'm almost positive a lot of you have never heard of the version by The Script. It's slow, it's sad, it's just right. However, it's about how much he loves this girl. So I'm not sure why it's so sad. Don't ask me. It's a clever mix of emotions. The Script starts talking about how "The bad news came, my best friend died...my knees went weak and you saw me cry. Say I'm still the soldier in your eyes." He's trying to get his girl to know that he's still a man no matter what, and he's still going to take care of her--at least, that's my take on this line. Love this song.
Distance--Christina Perri
No. Don't even get me started on my love for Christina Perri. It's almost tied with my love for Sara Bareilles. This song is a great, great song. It's so bitter sweet. The rhythm is so soothing that you feel like you can wrap yourself up in the song and fall asleep--it's like your safe inside of it (I get wayyyy too into music). She's trying to hold on to this guy that never had any business trying to fall in love with her--when they broke up, she still loves him, but she can never tell him. One of my favorite songs.
Kaleidoscope Heart--Sara Bareilles
Took me ages just to spell this right. But that's dedication for you. This song is all but a minute long, and packs every single emotion into it. The song she sings is about how everyone is totally different, but we all have the same essential colors inside of us. This song is completely a cappella, which just shows that Bareilles had a lot she learned from her days in her a cappella group (Wikipedia). Beautiful, simple song.
AND FINALLY...
Blame it on the Rain--He is We
Cute, whimsical lyrics..."Tell me does she look at you the way I do, try to understand the words you say and the way you move...does she get the same big rush, when you go in for a hug and your cheeks brush, tell me...am I crazy or is this more than a crush?" They're from a teenage girl's standpoint, which makes it all the more relatable. And the main singer's voice is just so wispy and beautiful, it makes the song all the more better. One of my favorite songs right now.

Sara Bareilles
Some of my friends know of my like of Sara Bareilles.
Let me correct that. Obsession for her and her music.
She's so down to earth, which is a nice breath of fresh air. I mean seriously. She has fun when she's up on stage--I love it.
You may have heard of her from he songs Love Song (you know, I'm not gonna write you a love song, cuz you ask for it, cuz you need one...you see.) or King of Anything. Well anyway, I've gone to one of her concerts--literally the best one I've ever had the pleasure of attending. That might be because I'm comparing her concert to a Lyle Lovett concert, which my parents dragged me to when I was eight.
But you know.
Anyway, the reason I love her so much is because she has an alto voice, much like me. She also loves what she does, and the best part? She makes breakups seem like a celebration. Which, trust me, helped me a lot the beginning of this year (oops...too personal). Ms. Bareilles (so formal) makes her music great and unique to listen to, from her peppy, upbeat "yeah I dumped your ass, whatcha gonna do about it?" to her "here I am, begging for you again" and everything in between. This being said, Sara Bareilles does have songs about breakups and losing someone, like Basket Case, Hold My Heart, The Light, Breathe Again...the list can go on. Despite all this, she balances it all out perfectly with her peppy, so-freakin'-over-you songs, like Gonna Get Over You, King of Anything, Undertow, and Fairytale.
I have transferred many of my friends to Bareilles-ism. I make them just take a listen to one of her songs, and they're hooked. It's great. I recently got my friend Carrie hooked on Sara Bareilles. Carrie thinks that Fairytale is a song that is turning princesses that we all know and love into regular people, who don't feel like waiting for that Prince Charming to come. Sara shows defiance. She shows happiness. She shows sadness. She shows that it's okay to cry once in a while, as long as you get up, stronger than ever.
And I'm going to her show on Monday.
You can't imagine my excitement.
