Sara Bareilles

Some of my friends know of my like of Sara Bareilles.

Let me correct that. Obsession for her and her music.

She's so down to earth, which is a nice breath of fresh air. I mean seriously. She has fun when she's up on stage--I love it.

You may have heard of her from he songs Love Song (you know, I'm not gonna write you a love song, cuz you ask for it, cuz you need one...you see.) or King of Anything. Well anyway, I've gone to one of her concerts--literally the best one I've ever had the pleasure of attending. That might be because I'm comparing her concert to a Lyle Lovett concert, which my parents dragged me to when I was eight.

But you know.

Anyway, the reason I love her so much is because she has an alto voice, much like me. She also loves what she does, and the best part? She makes breakups seem like a celebration. Which, trust me, helped me a lot the beginning of this year (oops...too personal). Ms. Bareilles (so formal) makes her music great and unique to listen to, from her peppy, upbeat "yeah I dumped your ass, whatcha gonna do about it?" to her "here I am, begging for you again" and everything in between. This being said, Sara Bareilles does have songs about breakups and losing someone, like Basket Case, Hold My Heart, The Light, Breathe Again...the list can go on. Despite all this, she balances it all out perfectly with her peppy, so-freakin'-over-you songs, like Gonna Get Over You, King of Anything, Undertow, and Fairytale.

I have transferred many of my friends to Bareilles-ism. I make them just take a listen to one of her songs, and they're hooked. It's great. I recently got my friend Carrie hooked on Sara Bareilles. Carrie thinks that Fairytale is a song that is turning princesses that we all know and love into regular people, who don't feel like waiting for that Prince Charming to come. Sara shows defiance. She shows happiness. She shows sadness. She shows that it's okay to cry once in a while, as long as you get up, stronger than ever.

And I'm going to her show on Monday.

You can't imagine my excitement.

xoxo

Emma
